Gearbox & Transmission Repair in Al Quoz, Dubai

Velokar Auto Repairing diagnoses and repairs automatic, dual-clutch and manual gearboxes in our own workshop in Al Quoz Industrial 3. We read the gearbox before anyone talks about replacing it: fault codes, live data, fluid condition and a road test go into a written report with photos, and nothing starts until you approve the quote.

Gearbox symptoms Dubai drivers bring to us

Most transmission repair in Dubai starts with one of these. None of them means a new gearbox by itself — each has several possible causes, and most of them are far smaller than the gearbox:

If one of these sounds like your car, send the model and the symptom on WhatsApp 054 666 4838 — a short video of the dashboard or the noise helps.

How we diagnose a gearbox fault

1. Scan and live data

We connect the diagnostic computer and read the fault memory of the gearbox module and the modules around it. Stored codes, freeze-frame data, fluid temperature, line pressure, solenoid and clutch data and the adaptation values tell us where to look, before a spanner is lifted.

2. Fluid level and condition at the correct temperature

Many modern automatics have no dipstick. The level is set at a specific fluid temperature with the engine running, and a reading taken any other way is wrong. We check the level the way the manufacturer specifies, then look at the fluid itself — colour, smell, and whether it carries metal or clutch material.

3. Road test with the scanner connected

We drive the car with live data on the screen, so we see what the gearbox does at the moment the fault appears: which gear, what the fluid temperature is, whether the lock-up clutch engages, how the shift pressures behave.

4. Physical checks

Leaks at the pan gasket, the cooler lines and the output-shaft seals; the gearbox cooler and its thermostat; the engine and gearbox mounts, because a tired mount can feel exactly like a gearbox clunk; the wiring and the connector at the mechatronic unit, which corrodes in humid cars.

5. Written report and quote

What we found, with photos, and the options for fixing it. Free full inspection — written report. You decide before anything is ordered.

What we repair on gearboxes and transmissions

Gearbox repair Dubai owners can verify: every job starts with a full diagnosis, photos of what we find and a written report before any work. See the full list of what we do and don’t do.

Repair, rebuild or replace — how we decide

A gearbox is a collection of parts, not one part. When a solenoid, the valve body, a seal or the cooler is the problem, repairing that part is the honest answer and the gearbox stays in the car. When the clutches or the gear sets inside are worn, the choice is between a rebuild of your own unit and a replacement unit — new, or a quality used gearbox with a known history. We write every option in the quote on its own line so you can compare, and we explain what each one means for the car you have. You choose, we do only the approved work, and you get the old parts back.

Velokar is an independent multi-brand workshop, not part of any manufacturer’s network. Our team speaks Arabic and English, and the owner is on the workshop floor. We stand behind our work.

Why gearboxes suffer in Dubai

Heat is the enemy of transmission fluid. Stop-start traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road in August, a car parked in the sun all day, towing, and short trips that never let the fluid settle all push its temperature up, and hot fluid loses the properties that protect the clutches and the valve body. Sand and dust block coolers. Many of the gearboxes we see have never had their fluid looked at, because the paperwork said it was filled for life. That is why we check condition and level first — a fluid service done in time is the smallest gearbox job there is, and a routine check of the gearbox fluid is part of our scheduled maintenance.

The gearboxes we see most

Transmission repair questions reach us about the same units again and again:

On fully electric cars we do no gearbox, battery or electrical work; petrol, diesel and hybrid cars are all welcome.

How we work

1. InspectCodes, live data, fluid condition and a road test. Free full inspection — written report.

3. Quote and your approvalRepair, rebuild or replacement, each on its own line. Nothing starts without your approval.
4. Work and hand-overWe do only the approved work, set the fluid level and the adaptations, road-test the car and hand it over with a written record. You get the old parts back.

Gearbox repair — quick answers

Is a gearbox flush a good idea?

A fluid and filter change with the correct fluid for your transmission is good maintenance. A pressurised flush machine on an older, neglected gearbox can dislodge debris and move it to where it does harm, so we do not flush blindly. We look at the fluid first: if it is dark, smells burnt or carries metal, we tell you what that means before anything is done.

My gearbox is described as sealed for life. Does it still need fluid?

Every automatic gearbox has fluid in it, and fluid ages with heat and mileage. “Filled for life” describes the manufacturer’s plan, not what the fluid looks like after years of Dubai summers and traffic. We check its level and condition against the schedule for your model year and tell you honestly whether it needs changing.

Can you repair the valve body instead of replacing the gearbox?

Often, yes. On many automatics the valve body or mechatronic unit — solenoids, the conductor plate, the control module — is what fails, and the gears and clutches are fine. We confirm that with codes, live data and a road test before we propose it, and we write the option in the quote next to a rebuild or a replacement unit so you can compare.

The car goes into limp mode on hot days. Is that the gearbox?

It can be, but not always. Limp mode is the car protecting itself; the trigger can be gearbox fluid that runs too hot, a cooler or thermostat fault, a sensor, wiring, or a fault in a module that has nothing to do with the gearbox. We read the fault codes stored at the moment it happened and check the cooling side before we point at the gearbox.

Do you work on dual-clutch gearboxes such as DSG and PDK?

Yes. Dual-clutch gearboxes need the right clutch oil, correct adaptation after any work and careful diagnosis of jerky low-speed behaviour. We read the clutch adaptation values and the mechatronic data first, because a software reset, a fluid service and a clutch pack are very different jobs.

Is the inspection free, and can you collect the car?

Yes. Free full inspection — written report, before any work. Pickup and delivery are available within Dubai, and if the car cannot be driven we arrange recovery to our workshop through our towing partner during working hours. Send your model and location on WhatsApp 054 666 4838.
