Search for the best garage in Dubai and you get lists, ads and ten workshops that all promise the same thing. This guide gives you nine checks you can run yourself — on the phone, at the reception desk and when the quote arrives — so the decision rests on what you can see, not on a sign. It is written from inside an Al Quoz workshop, and every check is one you can run on us too.

A “top 10 garages” article is written once and sold to whoever pays for a place on it. A checklist works on every garage, including the one around the corner that no list has heard of, and it works at the three moments that matter: the first phone call, the moment you arrive, and the moment the quote lands on your phone. Vehicle owners who run these nine checks rarely end up paying twice for the same fault.
Many faults are “fixed” by replacing the part someone guessed at. The fault comes back, and you pay again. Ask on the phone: “Do you scan every module in the car, or only read the fault code?” A single code tells a technician where a symptom was noticed, not what caused it. A full scan with dealer-level diagnostic tools, a road test and a physical check come first; the parts list comes after. That is the difference between car repair and parts swapping.
Before any work starts, a good garage photographs the worn, broken or leaking part and sends you the picture. You see what the technician sees, then you decide. A workshop that will not show you the damaged part is asking for trust it has not earned. The same applies after the job: the old parts go back to you, in a bag, not into a bin.
A written report of what was found and an itemized quote, line by line, before anyone picks up a spanner. Verbal estimates change by the afternoon. What is not written down, nobody is held to — and a written quote is the only thing you can compare with another garage’s written quote.
This is the hardest check to fake. Ask, after the diagnosis: “What did you decide not to replace, and why?” A garage that answers with specifics — “the rear pads have half their life left, we will measure them again at the next service” — is making today’s bill smaller to keep you for years. A garage that replaces everything it touches is doing the opposite.
Genuine, OEM-equivalent or good used parts are three honest options for most jobs, and each belongs on its own line of the quote so you can see what you are choosing between. A workshop that offers only one option, or will not say which it fitted, has taken that decision away from you. Ask where the part came from and whether you can see the box.
Do not stop at the star number. Open the reviews themselves: are they spread over months, do they name a specific car or job, does the garage reply — especially to the unhappy ones? A reply that explains what happened tells you more about a workshop than ten five-star ratings without a word. Run the same test on us: our reviews are on our Google card, and we answer every one.
A modern Mercedes, BMW, Porsche or Range Rover cannot be diagnosed with a basic code reader, and wheel alignment needs an alignment rig, not an eye. Ask what diagnostic tools the workshop uses, which makes it sees every day, and — the more revealing question — which cars it does not take. Attention to detail on your make comes from seeing that make daily, not from a sign that lists every brand ever built.
A physical address in an industrial area, published hours, a person at the reception desk and an owner you can reach. Ask for the location pin before you drive over. If the “garage” is a phone number and a man who will collect the car, you do not know where your car is going or who is working on it. Ours is Al Quoz Industrial 3, Warehouse 3, open Monday to Saturday — closed on Sunday.
A garage that does everything is a garage that sends your car somewhere else and adds a margin. The honest ones publish what they do not do. We do not sell or fit tyres, we do not replace glass, and on fully electric cars we do no battery or electrical work — it is all on our what we do and don’t do page. A clear “no” is a sign that the “yes” means something.
And do not make the quote your first question. A number before anyone has opened the bonnet is a number without meaning, because you do not yet know what you are buying.
A car still covered by its manufacturer usually stays with the dealer for the work that coverage pays for. For everything else — routine maintenance, servicing and repairs, a fault the dealer could not find — an independent workshop can be the better fit, provided it passes the checks above: the same dealer-level diagnostic tools, daily experience of your make, a written report and your choice of parts. Run the nine checks on both and judge by what you see. Our own answer to the question is on our car repair in Dubai page and in how a visit to our Al Quoz garage works.
Velokar Auto Repairing is an independent multi-brand workshop in Al Quoz Industrial 3. Our team speaks Arabic and English, and the owner is on the workshop floor. Buying a used car? The same method, applied before you pay, is our pre-purchase inspection. We stand behind our work.

There is no single answer, and anyone who claims the title for themselves has already failed check 9. The right garage is the one that passes the nine checks for your car: it diagnoses before it replaces, shows you what it found, puts the report and the quote in writing, lets you choose the parts, and has reviews you can verify.
A car still covered by its manufacturer usually stays with the dealer for that work. Outside that, an independent workshop with dealer-level diagnostic tools and daily experience of your make can do the same servicing and repairs — run the nine checks on it and judge by what you see, not by the sign.
Open the reviewer’s profile and the date. Real reviews are spread over months, mention a specific car or job, and the garage replies to them — including the unhappy ones. A burst of five-star reviews in one week, all without detail, tells you something too.

The car, its registration and whatever you have noticed: a short video of the noise, a photo of the warning light, the last service invoice if you have it. Free full inspection — written report, before any work.
